Burns Night with a Turkish Touch: Poetry, Food, and Shared Traditions

Join us for a special Burns Night that brings Scottish and Turkish poetry together in a warm and welcoming setting.

The evening will open with a live performance by Anam Alba, who will both recite and perform Robert Burns’ poems in song, staying true to the spirit and tradition of Burns Night.

Following the Burns performance, the programme will turn to Turkish poetry. A guest academic will read selected poems and share brief reflections, after which attendees are warmly invited to step forward and read poems by Turkish poets of their choice, creating an open and participatory atmosphere.

Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy a selection of Scottish and Turkish delicacies, making this a shared cultural experience around poetry, music, and food.

No prior knowledge of poetry is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to share the moment.

İskoç ve Türk şiirini aynı masada buluşturan özel bir Burns Gecesi’ne davetlisiniz.

Akşam, Burns Gecesi geleneğine uygun olarak Anam Alba’nın Robert Burns şiirlerini hem okuduğu hem de şarkı olarak seslendirdiği performansla başlayacak. Şiir ve müziğin iç içe geçtiği bu bölüm, gecenin İskoç tarafını güçlü bir şekilde açacak.

Ardından program Türk şiirine geçecek. Bir akademisyen konuğumuz Türk şiirinden seçilmiş örnekler okuyacak; sonrasında ise isteyen katılımcılar sevdikleri Türk şairlerden şiirler okumak üzere söz alabilecek. Böylece akşam, katılıma açık ve samimi bir paylaşıma dönüşecek.

Etkinlik boyunca İskoç ve Türk mutfağından ikramlar da sunulacak. Bu buluşma, şiiri ve kültürü resmiyetten uzak, birlikte paylaşmaya dayalı bir ortamda buluşturmayı amaçlıyor.
